Proposals for grants 2004 BOI: Indicators and recommendations for prevention and control (Spain coord.) Best practices and efficient policies for injury prevention in the EU (Greece coord.) Recommendations for preventing falls among elderly people (Finland coord.) Prevention of accidents among vulnerable road users (Austria coord.) Dissemination of good practices in accident & injury prevention (Netherlands coord.)

Task forces established by European Commission 2004 Volontary work, mandate to produce short reports by end of 2004, aim to enhance the injury prevention agenda in the PHP: 1. Road Safety 2. Burden of Injuries 3. Injury Prevention indicators

Terms of Reference for Task Force on Injury Indicators Propose maximum five indicators, made operational by commonly agreed definitions and available data (by end 2004) Develop indicators within ECHI framework Integrate indicators in ECHI-2 ’1st Phase Core Indicators’ (shortlist) Over-all aim of indicators: Support MS/EU health policy priorities, i.e. monitoring trends, comparing countries, indicating areas for policy action

Time frame for Task Force on Injury Indicators Task force to continue work in affiliation with Working Party on Indicators, aiming to improve EU Health and Knowledge System Development of injury indicators linked to ECHI-2 related work Cooperation with Eurostat, WHO, OECD, ICE, etc.

ECHI-2 partners’ work on indicators related to accidents/injuries (example) EU Health Monitoring Programme: CHILD project: Child Health Indicators of Life and Development, includes Child mortality: Fatal unintentional and intentional injuries Child morbidity: Injuries to children Child Health Systems and Policy: Child transportation safety

Consultation of members EuroSafe Members are consulted on progress of work and plans for next years Members have the right to: -approve the plan of work for the current year -approve report on past year activities -elect members of the Steering Committee for three years -modify rules for operation with a minimum two-third majority vote Members will be regularly updated on new developments
