4.1 Why Modulate? 고속의 멀티미디어 서비스를 위하여 고속의 data rate과 고품질의 서비스를 요구 하게되었습니다. MC-CDMA는 이러한 요구를 만족하는 기술중에 하나입니다. MC-CDMA는 직교하는 여러개의 부반송파를 이용하여 전송함으로써 주파수 선택적페이딩에 강합니다. 또한, 복수의 사용자가 코드를 사용하여 다중화 함으로써 주파수 효율을 높일수 있습니다. 세 번째로, 사용자가 같은 데이터를 다른 캐리어를 사용하여 전송하므로, 주파수 다이버시티 이득을 얻을 수 있다.
