August 15Notre Dame de Sion25 Theodore’s love for Egypt Theodore writes: I have a great affection for the Egyptian people. Perhaps that is because of the relations of my Jewish family had with them. Instruction to the novices Nov

August 15Notre Dame de Sion26 „ In Sion firmata sum“ – “In Sion I am established forever” Jesus Sirach 24,10 It is the prayer around our finger. We can touch it and pray the words often during the day. It gives our congregation basis and strength in this time of transition and renewal. Reflecting and praying with this text we found its biblical richness and depth we want to share with you:

August 15Notre Dame de Sion27 „ In Sion firmata sum“ Lev 26:11-12 ”I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.” Is 56:7 “… these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.“ Joel 3 (4):17 "Then you will know that I, the LORD your God, dwell in Zion, my holy hill. Jerusalem will be holy; never again will foreigners invade her.“ Jesus Sirach 24:7-11 I looked everywhere for a place to settle, some part of the world to make my home. Then my Creator, who created the universe, told me where I was to live. Make your home in Israel, he said. The descendants of Jacob will be your people. He created me in eternity, before time began, and I will exist for all eternity to come. I served him in the Sacred Tent and then made my home on Mount Zion. He settled me in the Beloved City and gave me authority over Jerusalem.

August 15Notre Dame de Sion28 “In Sion I am established forever” Sion – Jerusalem – New Jerusalem Sir 24:7ff e.a. is also used as justification for Jewish land- acquisition and expulsion of Palestinians. Sion as part of a political struggle!? How can Sisters of Sion support a reading of the bible which includes God’s continuing covenant with the Jewish people, is open for God’s Love and trust to all people (Is 56:7 e.a.) and is not excluding the Palestinian people from their land?

August 15Notre Dame de Sion29 “In Sion I am established forever” Sion – Jerusalem – New Jerusalem Sion is a place where God chooses to live under his people, a place of blessing, compassion, deliverance, help, support, strength and forgiveness for all people. It’s a place where those who are poor, vulnerable and fragile are given a special place to live – their home! Sion supports “sumud” - persistence! Sisters of Sion as witness for “faith and justice”.
