The Dream I dreamed I stood in a studio
Presentation transcript:

I dreamed I stood in a studio And watched two sculptors there, The clay they used was a young child's mind And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher; the tools being used Were books and music and art, One a parent with a guiding hand And a gentle, loving heart. Day after day the teacher toiled With touch that was deft and sure, While the parent laboured just as hard And polished and smoothed it o'er. When at last their task was done They were proud of what they had wrought, For the things they had moulded into the child Could neither be sold nor bought. And both agreed they would have failed If they had worked alone; For behind the parent stood the school And behind the teacher, the home. David Bowen

Student Engagement & Well being Our student attendance data is performing better than predicted, given our students' backgrounds. On the Attitudes to School Survey, our Year 5 and 6 students' belonging and connectedness to school is lower than other schools on the adjusted school performance. This year, the school has placed a lot of focus on this area, which includes:  A consultant working with the leadership team to develop actions for improvement.  Conducting student focus groups to ascertain their feelings and perceptions.  Analysing findings from the student focus groups and reporting to staff.  In 2010 staff will be provided with further professional learning and will put in place practices to build a strong sense of school belonging and connectedness. Our school values of respect, integrity, caring and honesty, the student code of behaviour and our whole school behaviour management underpins our positive students relationships and strong peer connectedness. The students are extremely well behaved at our school. The You Can Do It program has enhanced the social skills of students Achievements

Student Pathways and Transitions In the first year of our four year Strategic Plan, Glen Waverley South Primary School is very proud of its achievements in this area. They are:  Implementation of a cohesive school-wide curriculum that is complementary & sequential.  In 2010, the Implementation of the Student Mapping Tool to track student academic and social/ emotional progress from the time a child enters prep to Year 6.  Improved school processes and programs for preparation of students moving from pre-school, from year to year, transferring into the school.  Our school's student pathways and transition quality practices include:  Our Prep Transition program, which plays an important part in the transition from pre-school to school and is very successful in ensuring students become familiar with the facilities, teachers and other students.  Our transition program for students moving from year to year. During Term 4, students participate in activities that prepare them academically, socially and emotionally for the following year level Achievements
