Numeracy Strategies to Support Trainees

Numeracy Check trainees have an understanding of 4 basic operations and units of measurement relevant to workplace training Teach trainees how to use calculators Assist trainees to know situations in which estimation skills are appropriate Demonstrate accurate use measuring equipment: calculators, gauges, thermometers. Check trainees understand language of numeracy Be consistent with terms used but explain connections between terms when new term is introduced.

Numeracy Provide practise in interpretation of graphs or numerical information in written documents, such as technical specifications Take time to practise numeracy and discuss different ways to solve numeracy problems Use a step-by-step procedure to assist trainees to solve numeracy problems 1.Get to know the problem 2.Decide what to do 3.Estimate the answer 4.Do the calculation 5.Review or check your answer

Required knowledge for TAELLN401A o definitions of core LLN skills, according to the ACSF  methodology for determining skill levels using the ACSF o national policy on the integration of LLN into training package competencies o legislation and codes of practice, for example:  equal opportunity legislation  privacy legislation  organisational requirements o OHS relating to the work role, including:  reporting requirements for hazards  emergency procedures  safe use and maintenance of equipment  sources of OHS information  OHS obligations of employers and employees, including supervisors
