Step By Step Through the New Testament Rev. Christopher J. Respass Antioch Bible Institute Fall 2013 Lesson 10 Mark: A Busy Beginning

I.God’s Purpose is Superior to our Plan (Mark 1:16-20). A. Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James and John out of the fishing industry to make them “fishers of men.” B. There are times when being obedient to God brings about ministry and life disruption. Mark: A Busy Beginning

Would Jesus disrupt YOUR life to have you do his will? Mark: A Busy Beginning

II.Jesus Helped the hurting and so should we (Mark 1:21-45). A. Jesus Helps and heals those who are hurting. B. At times, Jesus uses us in the process of rendering his help and healing to others (see, Luke 10:17-22). C. Prayer is the key in spiritual warfare (Mark. 9:14-29). Mark: A Busy Beginning

Note: there are those who come in the congregation with an “unclean spirit” (v.23). Q: Where should those suffering from demonic oppression go for relief? Mark: A Busy Beginning

III.God Rewards us for our Faith (Mark 2:1-12). A. No small matter that the people gathered as Jesus preached the Word. B. Four friends brought a paralytic friend to Jesus (v.3-4). C. Jesus saw their faith and forgave his sin (since cosmic sin is the root of all sickness). Note: Jesus showed that he was able to heal and forgive sins. Mark: A Busy Beginning

IV.God will not forgive those who truly blaspheme the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:20-30). In the circumstances leading to the introduction of the “unpardonable sin” he showed that: A. Believing that Jesus cast out demons by Satan’s power is illogical (v.22-26). B. Jesus is more powerful than Satan—they aren’t equals (v.27). Mark: A Busy Beginning

C. Jesus warned that all sins would be forgiven except blaspheming against the Holy Spirit (v.28-30). So, what is the “unpardonable sin”? Mark: A Busy Beginning

1.The unforgivable blasphemy is the “act of deliberately associating the power and work of Jesus to the work of Satan ( note, Reformation Study Bible, 1420 ). 2.Because Jesus is God and full of the Holy Spirit, this act would equate supreme holiness and goodness with ungodliness and leading one to shun the redemptive work of the Holy Spirit through Jesus. The Unpardonable Sin

3.Where one truly believes this, it produces a hardness of heart in a way that makes repentance impossible—(because they do not believe the work of Jesus is from God). As a result, forgiveness is impossible because they won’t ask for it. 4.See, Hebrew 6:4-6 The Unpardonable Sin

How do you know whether you have committed the sin? Mark: A Busy Beginning

Your Concern Mark: A Busy Beginning
