1199SEIU TUF March Focus groups 9 focus groups held throughout Massachusetts –Amherst, Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Hyannis, Lawrence, Lynn, Springfield and Worcester Total of 98 PCA focus group participants Demographic characteristics of focus group participants mirrored those of survey respondents

1199SEIU TUF March Focus groups: Key Themes ► High enthusiasm for training across the board ►Overall curiosity about certification for different types of training ► Strong interest in comprehensive basic training relating to the PCA Consumer Employer’s personal care and targeted training relating to specific PCA Consumer Employer’s clinical conditions

1199SEIU TUF March Focus groups: Training Topics ► Strong interest in: ●the issue of PCA roles and responsibilities regarding the administration of medication ●the need to learn to work more effectively with PCA Consumer Employers around challenging behavioral issues ●the need to better understand the roles and responsibilities of the day-to-day work of a PCA
