The Art of Good Communication James 3

Power of communication Harming (James 3:5-12)

Power of communication Healing – “A soothing tongue is a tree of life, …” (Prov 15:4). – “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, …(Prov 10:11). – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Pro 18:21).

Communication & relationships With Each Other The word “communication” comes from a Latin word “to share.” With God (Genesis 2-3; John 1:14-18)

Communication & relationships Fools don’t listen, therefore don’t communicate: (1 Sam 25)

Words determine Direction in life (James 3:1-5) – The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; the one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin (Prov 13:3). Destiny of the soul (Matt 12:33-37)

Great communication Speak only what is Edifying, Appropriate & Gracious. – Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. – Prov 15:23; Luke 4:16-23; Col 4:5-6; Eph 4:31-32

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psa 141:3)
