Innovative Teaching and Learning in Functional Maths at Entry Level Three and Level One [A project led by Northern College for Adult Residential Education and funded by LSIS] Welcome and Introduction

Project Overview Professor Malcolm Swan: the most effective way of teaching mathematical skills is to teach using collaborative methods. The project is designed to support the delivery of functional maths/numeracy teaching, with an emphasis on collaborative and innovative teaching methods. Develop student’s ability to demonstrate mathematical thinking and problem solving.

Project Aims and Outcomes Aims: To support the sector to expand the quantity and quality of its maths/numeracy provision. To equip tutors with the practical skills and confidence to use active and collaborative methods in teaching functional skills. Objectives: The creation of a comprehensive package of teaching and learning materials which address the nationally identified difficulties that students have with functional maths.
