WE PRAISE YOU, O GOD LHS 887

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, creator; In grateful devotion our tribute we bring. We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you; We bless your holy name, glad praises we sing. 1 of 3

We worship you, God of our fathers, we bless you; Through trial and tempest our guide you have been. When perils o’ertake us, you will not forsake us, and with your help, O Lord, our struggles we win. 2 of 3

With voices united our praises we offer and gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise. With you, Lord, beside us, your strong arm will guide us; To you, our great redeemer, for ever be praise 3 of 3

CONFESSION AND DECLARATION OF GRACE

8 Friends in Christ: Let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. Our help is in the name of the Lord. He made heaven and earth. I said, I will confess my sins to the Lord. Then he forgave the guilt of my sin.

9 P: Almighty God, our maker and redeemer, we confess to you that by nature we are sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against you by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to your infinite mercy and plead for your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

10 C. Most merciful God, you have given your only Son to die for us. Have mercy on us, and for his sake grant us forgiveness of all our sins. By your Holy Spirit increase our knowledge of you and your will, and make us obedient to your word, so that by your grace we may come to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

11 Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy on us, and has given his only Son to die for us, and for his sake forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in his name he has given the right to become children of God, and has given them his Holy Spirit. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved. Grant this, Lord, to us all. Amen.

PRAYEROF THE DAY…

God of joy, keep us from being weighed down by worry. Encourage us instead to lay our burdens on you. Make us cheerful and glad because your Son Jesus is always with us. For he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

CHAT

The CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Sermon

Your Offering for the Work of the Lord will now be received

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer. 1 of 3

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer. 2 of 3

Are we weak and heavy-laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Saviour, still our refuge! Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer; In His arms He’ll take and shield you, You will find a solace there. 3 of 3

All: God of love, you have reached out to us and blessed us in so many ways - especially through your most extravagant gift of all – Jesus Christ. We rejoice in your invitation to share our lives with him. Bless us as we respond by offering these gifts and by dedicating ourselves anew as disciples of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Response: Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

SILENT REFLECTION As our hearts are prepared for Holy Communion

P: The Lord be with you C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them up to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Holy Communion

C: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Holy Communion Words of Institution

Holy Communion P: Jesus says: ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’ Come, for everything is ready.

The Distribution If this is what you believe, then you are welcome to partake in Holy Communion, whether you are a member of this congregation or not. Holy Communion is for believers in Jesus who desire to receive God’s forgiveness and believe that Christ is present in this celebration as they eat the bread and drink the wine.

REMEMBER ME

Prayer after Holy Communion We give you thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed us through this healing gift; and we pray that through it you would graciously strengthen us in faith toward you and in love toward one another; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

LORD OF ALL HOPEFULNESS

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe: Be there at our labours and give us, we pray, Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day. 2 of 4

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, Your hands swift to welcome, Your arms to embrace: Be there at our homing and give us, we pray, Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day. 3 of 4

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm, whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm: Be there at our sleeping and give us, we pray, Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day. 4 of 4 Jan Struther © 1931 Oxford University Press CCLI Licence #
