URBAN INSTITUTE Promise Neighborhoods Place-based cradle-to-career initiative Children have access to great schools Children and families have access to strong systems of family and community support in the neighborhood Leads to strong K-12 education resulting to a successful transition to college and career US Department of Education Promise Neighborhood planning grants awarded October 2010

URBAN INSTITUTE Needs Assessment Collect academic and family and community support indicators Needs assessment Segmentation analysis Participate in 10 Results-Driven Work Groups Process to develop programming to move indicators and meet goals

URBAN INSTITUTE Data Collection Methods for Needs Assessment Administrative data Collected by NeighborhoodInfoDC (NIDC) via partnerships developed through RDWGs and existing NIDC partnerships Starting with aggregated data – will get to individual-level Real time, iterative, and on-going Focus groups Inform RDWG programming Collect hard-to-collect indicators (i.e., Internet connection, medical home, family involvement in school) April 2011
