SOCIAL ISSUES Social issues are about considering the needs of others and signs and symbols used relating to safety. Products need to be designed for use by people from different cultures, nationalities and people with different needs.

MORAL ISSUES Moral issues are concerned with the way in which products are manufactured and the way in which they affect the safety, comfort and well being of the people who make them and those who come into contact with the products.

ETI = Ethical Trading Initiative. Its aim is to promote and improve the implementation and codes of practice that set out minimal working requirements out-eti This symbol shows that workers in developing countries have received a fair wage for their work.

CULTURAL ISSUES Cultural issues are about valuing the responses of others to designs and the impact of different cultures on modern products.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES Environmental issues are about selecting materials that are suitable and sustainable, reducing the use of chemicals and harmful materials, reducing the carbon footprint, carbon offsetting and the need to dispose of products in an environmentally way. Carbon footprint Carbon offsetting Reforestation End of life disposal Product life cycle Globalisation – the internationalisation of products, labour and skill throughout the world. Products are made in specific countries where traditions, skills and techniques can give valuable income and jobs to a previously poor area.
