Project Objectives You will work with a partner to gather, analyze, synthesize, and present information about a career that interests both of you. While learning about careers, you also will be developing GASP learning strategies and collaboration skills. – These skills are necessary to be successful in middle school, high school, and postsecondary education.

Information First, you and your partner will choose one career of interest to explore. Then, you will be required to gather, analyze, synthesize, and present information about 5 topics related to your selected career of interest.

1. Career Description 1.What kinds of tasks do employees do? 2.What responsibilities do employees have? 3.What does a typical day look like? A work week? 4.Who do the employees work with? 5.What technology, machines, equipment, etc. do the employees work with? 6.What kind of environment do employees work in?

Career Preparation 1.What education is required for this career? 2.What level of education/type of degree do most employees have? 3.How many years of education and training does this job require? 4.What skills and strengths does the job require? 5.What experience is helpful to have? 6.What classes in middle and high school might help someone prepare? How? 7.Which colleges or universities have programs that can help a person prepare?

3. Career Salary 1.What is the average salary? 2.What is the starting salary? 3.What is the top salary?

Career Outlook 1.About how many jobs are currently available in this field? 2.In what year can you expect to enter this career field? – About how many jobs are expected to be available at that time? 3.What is the job outlook for this career? What is impacting the outlook?

Career Fit 1.What skills, strengths, and interests do you have that fit with this career? 2.What appeals to you about the career? 3.What is something that concerns you or does not appeal to you about the career?

Presentation Each pair will give a 3-5 minute presentation about their chosen career. Students must have a visual presentation to go along with their oral presentation. The visual should include information that answers all of the questions listed on the first page. The visual presentation can take the following forms: – Poster – Power Point – Webpage – Newsletter – Brochure – Flash or Animated presentation
