What is AP? Advanced Placement “AP is a rigorous academic program built on the commitment, passion, and hard work of students and educators from both secondary schools and higher education. Since 1955, the AP Program has enabled millions of students to take college-level courses and exams, and to earn college credit or placement while still in high school.”-Collegeboard

PRE-AP TO AP Pre-AP starts in 7 th grade. Springboard Students are screened and recommended for Pre-AP and AP, however we maintain an open door policy Teachers are trained by College Board before they teach Pre-AP and AP.

STUDENTS NEED TO LEARN TO THINK AND ACT INDEPENDENTLY AND RESPONSIBLY. WE AS EDUCATORS CAN HELP DEVELOP THIS UNDERSTANDING AND SKILL SET. WE MUST TEACH OUR STUDENTS TO LEARN HOW TO LEARN. ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING IS THAT MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATORS MUST WORK TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF STUDENTS.

Middle and High School teachers meet monthly in subject areas Vertical Alignment Document Teachers lesson plan together and collaborate Meet AT LEAST 4 times per year. Preferably every month. Administrators must protect this meeting time Common planning time is good too VERTICAL ALIGNMENT

WHAT GOOD IS PRE-AP? Push Responsibility Expectations Accountability Preparation

WHAT CAN ADMINISTRATORS DO? Support, Support, Support Be interactive Take pride in AP Put as much emphasis on students succeeding on the AP exam as you do on students succeeding on the state assessments.

SUCCESS Over the last 4 years we have seen a large increase in total AP and Pre-AP participation. We have also seen an increase in students scoring 3, 4, and 5 on the AP exams. We have a greater number of students taking the PSAT. We have an open door policy for AP and Pre-AP.
