POD Responsibilities POD – Pastoral and social issues, behaviour and discipline, student support, child protection, holistic pupil development, academic overview POD – Celebration assemblies and breakfasts POD – Parents’ and Options evenings Setting & subject based enquiries – contact relevant subject area

Demerit process 3 demerits - placed on green report card by form tutor (tutor to make contact home either by telephone or letter to inform parents of this decision, also log this on Sims as information). 5 demerits - pupils will receive a verbal warning from their Year Manager. 7 demerits - a demerit warning letter will be sent home from the POD detailing the next sanctions that will be put into place if further demerits are gained. 9 demerits - pupil will be placed on amber report card by the POD (letter sent home with targets from the POD).

English To help your child improve their literacy skills please support the English department by encouraging your child to: Read fictional books Broaden wider reading by reading non-fictional, well written information which demonstrate different styles of writing such as magazine articles, newspapers e.g. I newspaper 20p. Encourage them to watch good quality TV programmes such as documentaries or the news. Talk to your children – ask them their opinions on various issues. Ask them questions to improve their wider knowledge of the world. Correct any spellings from subjects using their cross curricular spelling book.

Science Year 9 have started their GCSE course. No external exams in Year 9, there will be internal assessments. Most students will take their first GCSE external exam, Science A, at end of Year 10, Additional Science at end of Year 11. Some students may opt for three separate sciences from start of Year 10. These will only have external exams at the end of Year 11. All students will take 3 controlled assessments during Year 9. These internal assessments last for several lessons and it is essential that students attend. Please try to avoid taking students out of the academy for holidays.
