Our Virtual Summer Vacations

Project Overview Distance learning students embarked on virtual vacation trips this past summer. Some students returned to places they had visited before, while others ventured to places unknown to them. This Memory Book is a sampling of trip journal entries.

Kathy Alaska

I visited Alaska because of the beauty of the scenery. You may see green grass on one side and white snow on the other. The weather is about the same there as it is here. The sights you see are moose, bears, and wolves. Kathy’s Journal Entry

Tim Massachusetts

Tim’s Journal Entry I traveled to Boston with staff and guests from Gould Farm. Our travel plans were to look into a job in Atkinson, Mass. and a group home in Waltham, Mass. We went to a coffee shop in Boston, Mass. On the way home we stopped on the highway at Burger King and Friendly’s. Gould Farm is in Monterey, Mass. Paul Revere’s House

Bill New York

Bill’s Journal Entry Mady and I went to Niagara Falls on July 29. We did a lot of fun things. We took the Maid of the Mist boat under the falls. We took a walk under the falls and saw rocks. We went to the museum to see different things. We saw the barrels and boats that people used to go over the falls. Then we went to a restaurant that looks like a spaceship for lunch and looked at the view. Then we headed home.

Louie Alaska

Louie’s Journal Entry I’m going to Fairbanks because I knew a person in the service in Alaska. My brothers Donald, Harry, Nelson, and Raymond and I will travel together to Alaska. We started at 9:00 am and went by plane to Fairbanks Alaska and arrived in two days. We will leave on July 10th and arrive home on July 12th.

Mady Connecticut

Mady’s Journal Entry I went to Middleton Connecticut. I liked the scenic views. We ate lunch with Bobby, Bill’s good friend. Then we went riding and shopping all over. The radio in the car played pretty music. I also heard birds chirping and crickets singing peacefully. I did not want to come back from my journey to Connecticut.

Jane California

Jane’s Journal Entry, page 1 My family, all my friends, and I went on a trip to California to tour a lot of places that are points of interest to me and everyone on the trip!!! We went to the theater of the stars and our next joint venture was to go to Mann's to see stars’ hand and foot prints, and signatures.

We also visited the major Hollywood studios of yesteryear to tour the old movie sets!!! The thing I liked about Mann’s is that it is steeped in the history of a time known as the Golden Era of Hollywood. Actors and actresses went to see the movies they made in that particular movie theater. Jane’s Journal Entry, page 2

I read in a Story recently that when the old Grauman’s Chinese Theater was sold, the new owners searched for a different name. Someone came up with calling it Mann's Chinese Theater. They call it Chinese because it’s built like a Chinese Pagoda. Jane’s Journal Entry, page 3

Brian Arkansas

Brian’s Journal Entry I woke up around 5 AM and took a shower, got Dressed, and watched some TV. Around 7AM I left my room and went across the street to have breakfast. I then went to Crater of Diamonds State Park and started mining for diamonds. By 11AM I had found 17 diamonds. I went to the local diamond exchange and sold them for $1,500.

Gary Montana

I visited this scenic area while in Montana. It is the Glacier National Park. I enjoyed my stay there a lot. I thought it was a breathtaking, wonderful, and exciting place to be. The mountains were tall and majestic. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Montana. Gary’s Journal Entry

Barry Florida

Barry’s Journal Entry I am traveling with my sister and we went to visit relatives in Florida. We visited Universal Studios and Epcot Center. We also toured New York City and Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, we visited the Liberty Bell and The nearby Crayola Crayon Factory. We looked at colonial buildings and saw old war ships on the Delaware River.

Barry’s Journal Entry, page 2 We traveled to Boston Harbor, saw the USS Constitution, and a Naval Destroyer. I saw an aircraft carrier with F-15’s or F-16’s on the top deck
