Feature: PlotView Benefits: Analyze Data Create & Manipulate Plots Illustrate Trends & Outcomes

Feature: Integrated Data Visualization Benefits: Develop Analytical Skills Understand & Interpret Data

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Goals: Use tables, graphs and equations to represent relationships Understand linear, quadratic, & exponential relationships

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: Go to Start Button. Select All Programs, InspireData & Databases. Open the Mathematics Folder. Read the Description of the 8 Different Tables. Click on Each Tab to Change Tables. What Type of Algebraic Relationships is being Modeled? Linear, Quadratic, Exponential or None. Arrange Students into Small Groups. Click on PlotView Icon (Looks like Dice) in the Upper Left Hand Corner.

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: Click on AxisPlot Icon (4 th from the Left on the Bottom Toolbar) Click on Plot Options Icon in the Bottom Left Hand Corner above the Toolbar Choose Instant Plot. An Animated Time Series Plot of the Data Will Appear Click on the Notes Icon in the bottom right hand corner

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: What is the algebraic relationship? Click on the Slide Sorter Icon on the Toolbar in the Bottom Right Hand Corner and then the Capture Slide Icon to the Right of the Slide Sorter Icon. Create Time Series Plots for all 8 Tables. Save changes by clicking on the Slide Options Icon (Downward Triangle on Each Slide). Select Update Slide

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: Click on the TableView Icon in the Upper Left Hand Corner Compare Results by Using Tables & Calculator to Confirm Type of Algebraic Relationship Are the Previously Predicted Relationships from the Graphs Confirmed from the Tables? Click the Slide Options Button & Select Update Slide. Repeat for each table.

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: Class Discussion What do the maximum and the x-intercepts represent in relation to population growth? the value of a savings account? What do the slope and y-intercept mean in relation to baby-sitter earnings? shopping cart trains?

Classroom Projects: Math Lesson: Algebraic Modeling (Grades 8-12) Directions: Individual Student Summaries & Explanations How do you visually decide if a graph represents a linear, quadratic, or exponential relationship? How do you decide if a table represents a relationship based on its values?

CLASSROOM PROJECTS: SCIENCE GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

CLassroom Projects: Science Geography & Climate Grades 4-8 GOAL Understanding the relationship between temperature, elevation, precipitation, longitude & latitude in different worldwide locations

Classroom Projects: Science Geography & Climate Grades 4-8 INSTRUCTIONS: Switch to Plot View clicking on the icon in the upper left hand corner that looks like dice Create a Venn Plot by clicking on the 2 nd icon from the left on the bottom toolbar Click on the field label inside the loop and choose highest temperature Click on the equals sign and choose the less than sign. Click on the ? and type in 100 (degrees)

Classroom Projects: Science Geography & Climate Grades 4-8 INSTRUCTIONS Click on the label button to see the cities. Cities with the highest temperature on record less than 100 degrees are inside the loop. Click the Add Venn Loop button in the bottom left hand corner to complete the plot. Repeat the steps to add more loops.

Classroom Projects: Science Geography & Climate Grades 4-8 INSTRUCTIONS Click on the Axis Plot Button On the Y Axis Label choose Elevation (ft.) On the X Axis Label choose Mean Annual Snowfall (in.) Change the range of an axis by clicking on the maximum value and enter a new end point. Click reset to undo any changes Move the cursor over the planet icon next to each location and double click to learn more about its geography and climate

Classroom Projects: Science Geography & Climate Grades 4-8 INSTRUCTIONS Click on the SlideSorter Button in the bottom right hand corner of the toolbar Click the Capture Slide Button next to the SlideSorter Button. Save changes made to the plots by clicking on the SlideOptions button (downward triangle) Select Update Slide. What questions and answers can you think of when looking at the tables and graphs?

SOCIAL STUDIESGRADES 7-12 DO UNEMPLOYMENT RATES AFFECT PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS? GRADES 7-12 HOW DO POLITICAL ISSUES REFLECT SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHANGE? WHAT IS THE ROLE OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN A MARKET ECONOMY? HOW HAVE ELECTIONS BEEN IMPACTED BY UNEMPLOYMENT? View Data & Click on the Plot View Button on the Toolbar Click on the Axis Plot Button on the Toolbar Click on the Plot Options Button Choose Instant Plot: Unemployment (%) by Year Click the Note Button on the Toolbar to Open the Notes Area and Type Notes

Social Studies: Grades 7-12 DO UNEMPLOYMENT RATES AFFECT PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS Click on the Slide Sorter Button on the Toolbar Click on the Capture Slide Button in the Slide Sorter Click on the Slide Options Button and Select Update Slide to Save Changes Click on the Tab for Yearly Unemployment Data Click on the Add Field Button on the Toolbar. Name the Field “President.” Repeat to Add a New Field Called “Political Party” Fill in the Data for Each Year By Clicking on the Empty Cells & Entering the Information.
