FORUM THIS WEEK TOPIC: KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE DATE:

When crossing the street look both ways for and listen for a car. Always LISTEN, LOOK AND THEN WALK. Also if it is at night try to wear something bright, so the car can see you. If you are at a curve then walk a bit more up the street, and then cross the road, because most accident happen when crossing the road on a curve.

There are millions of cars around the world but it only takes one to hit you, stop, look and listen. Whenever crossing a road remember to take your earphones out and look both ways before crossing. When on a busy road look for a zebra crossing to cross Around 1,400 children aged 0–11 are killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads every year. That’s almost 27 children every week.

If you are in a car, minibus or coach, you should always put a seatbelt on, because if the driver crashes, the seat belt will stop you from badly injured.

Train Safety When you come to a crossing, slow down, listen and look both ways before crossing the tracks. If a train is coming, stop at least five metres from the nearest rail or gate. Do not cross the track until you are sure the train or trains have passed. Never race a train to the crossing. Do not cross the track until you are sure the train or trains have passed. If there are signals, wait until they stop flashing and, if the crossing has a barrier, wait until it rises before you cross. Up to 60 people are killed on the railway every year by crossing the tracks, taking short cuts or playing chicken. Did you know…Trains can travel at 125 mph and take the length of 20 football pitches to stop. If you are in the way the train won’t stop - the driver will not see you until it’s too late.

Social media is used a lot and you need to be aware of the dangers. Before signing up to social media websites always read the terms and conditions. Facebook/Twitter – check the privacy settings on your account Only post information/photos that you are happy to share. Don’t make your home address or phone number public information. This is for your safety.

When you are on a website like twitter or Facebook, you need to be careful what you put on there. Never put were you live or your number or were you are going like the time and place. Don’t just add anyone, be careful who you add as your friend.

POINTS FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS You can now get points for contributing to the Student Forum. If your work is used or displayed in the student forum, assemblies or frames, you will get… Any student can contribute.
