ARIES The ARIES decision support system provides 12 different modules which all can assist in the identification of ingredients of animal feeds, dedicated to the detection of contamination with animal meal. The first official version has been released in December The start screen contains 12 buttons, one for each module. Pressing a button will open the linked module of ARIES. Some modules will be shown on the next page. press enter

The first step in the evaluation of a feed sample is the collection of data from a slide which is prepared from a sample suspected to contain animal proteins. ARIES can guide you through the process by showing a protocol and handling of equipment and appropriate chemicals. press enter A possibility of support for the evaluation of your examination is a graphical comparison of the views under your microscope with images from ARIES. Images in the PictureKey are buttons that can be pressed for making choices. Additional possibilities are indicated by text. The next page shows an animation of using the PictureKey. As an example an image as shown under a microscope is presented. For every choice in the key the best fitting image is chosen. An appearing red border means that the button has been pressed.

A very powerful option is the module IdentifyIt. This module allows the user to enter the collected information in its own preferred order. The module calculates a match percentage between the user’s information and the descriptions of the several types of ingredients. In the following animation a data file has been selected and subsequently the specified states for three characters are entered. The module allows to go to the connected page of the chosen ingredient in the Sample Types module. press enter

ARIES

ARIES also contains some information on Near Infra-red microscopy. The TextKey includes information on discriminating peaks in the NIRM spectra. Pressing the buttons that fit with your data will finally guide you to the most appropriate choice. press enter

After having made final conclusions with the keys and/or IdentifyIt, you can confirm your choice by making a comparison with images from the large image database in the module Gallery. Besides microscopical data and images ARIES also contains additional information, such as results for NIRM and PCR for a range of samples from practice. As can be seen on the next page, this information is contained on a special tab named description in the Gallery. press enter
