Objective Students will be able to explain their answers on an open response question. LessonAssessment Open response question: Mary’s Reading Rate Answers put onto Assistments Essay Critique Discuss rubric on the open response question.

HW: Open Response Question: Mary’s Reading Rate Students worked on the ORQ at home and the next day in class entered their answers on Assistments.

Objective Students will be able to explain their answers on an open response question.. Lesson Discuss rubric on the open response question. Assessment Open response question: Mary’s Reading Rate Answers put onto Assistments. Objective Students will be able to critique explanations on an open response and better understand how to write an explanation on an ORQ. Lesson Students critique 4 different student responses from the open resonse question. Review the critiques as a whole class. Assessment Similar ORQ for homework Apply what they learned in the critique Essay Critique

The students came into the computer lab and worked on the assignment on assistments. Lesson: Essay Critique on answers to open response There were four student samples And the students graded the Answer and explained why they Gave it the grade. They used the following rubric to help them.

ESSAY CRITIQUE Why do you think I pick these four responses? How would you grade them using the rubric? Look at the Critiques for each response. What do we say to the students whose responses were wrong? Sign in to Assistments: Log in: Password: 1234 Go to assignment 20.

Students worked in groups to go over Danny’s Bicycle ORQ to give reasons to improve to a 4.

Follow-up to the Critique: 1)Graded and passed back Danny’s Bicycle ORQ. 2)Went over the rubric for Standard 2 with the classes. Reviewed each level of the rubric in detail. 3)Went back to the 4 responses to the critique and told them why I chose those four responses based on the rubric. 4)Had them go back over their responses to Danny’s Bicycle for homework. --Write down 3 statements of how they can improve their score to a 4. 5) Worked in groups the next day based on their score on the ORQ and discussed with each other and agreed on 3 statements to help improve their score.

Examples of what they discussed in groups to show improvement. 1)Add more math vocabulary. 2)Read the problem carefully. 3)Explain more with detail and more examples. 4)Explain all steps to solve the problem. 5)Explain in detail and make sure it makes sense. 6)Make sure answer is organized and easy to follow.

Similar rectangles ORQ: 1)Go to assignment # 42 iitem report on Assistments. 2)Click on Essay Grading. Which 3 responses should I choose for the next essay critique? What is my biggest problem in choosing from the responses? Are there only a few students still struggling with their explanations or are there many that still need to work on their explanations? The students on the next essay critique will be working in pairs. What would my next objective be after the next essay critique?
