BERRYNARBOR SCHOOL SPRING NEWSLETTER March 2015 SUN SAFETY Sun cream– please apply sun cream before your child comes to school (“6/8 hour” or “all day” protection will protect until home time.) If you choose to use creams that need reapplying during the day, please ensure that your child knows how to apply it themselves. All sun cream bottles brought into school need to be clearly named. YR-Y4 need to place these bottles in the tub in the classroom. Y5/6 can keep them either in their trays or PE bags. Teachers will remind children to apply the cream before lunch time but the older children will be expected to manage this with a greater degree of independence. If your child does not have suncream in school with them we will assume that they for applied all day protection. Water Please ensure your child has a fresh bottle of water each day. Sunhats All children will need a clearly named sun hat after Easter so that they will be able to join in all of the outdoor play and learning activities. There will be no spare hats in school. The children designed and made sashes based on a book they had enjoyed or a favourite character. The children were very creative. We also held a bring and buy book sale. Congratulations go to Hazel, Lily and Reuben who represented us on the day at a Book Quiz at Barnstaple Library. Hazel reported, ”It was Berrynarbors first time competing and we came fifth out of the fourteen schools taking part. We hope to compete again next year and come home with the trophy! We had great fun working closely together as we were tested on our knowledge of books.” SEAL RELEASE – 13 th March Class 4 had an exciting time watching the RSPCA from West Hatch releasing seals back into the sea at Combe Martin beach. It was wonderful to see these rescued seals swimming free again. The RSPCA said that they have more seals to release at a later date. COMIC RELIEF – 13 th March The children enjoyed face painting making their faces funny for money. INSPIRE AFTERNOONS The children have once again enjoyed having their adults alongside them in the classroom to share in the school experience. TEMPORARY MENU CHANGE At the start of the new term there will be a temporary change to Tuesday option 1 in Week One of the menu. 14 th and 28 th April it will be beef pie. 12 th May onwards chicken one pot pie. BOOKANEERS BOOK CLUB – Barnstaple Library Every other Tuesday in term time at 4.15pm to 5.15pm pupils aged between 8-11 meet at Barnstaple Library to read and review books chosen by the children, they also play games and craft.
