Strengths Aspects register Completing an initial risk assessment is a great start to your EMS however you do need to ensure it remains relevant and up to date - reflecting changing circumstances in both your business and legislation. You need also to make sure that you take into account normal and abnormal conditions, emergencies and accidents and don't forget you can have positive impacts as well as negative. As a more mature EMS you can potentially afford add more aspects into the significant ones you address and consider those areas that you may not have direct control over but can influence such as your business partners. Commitment to compliance Having documented a commitment to compliance, processes need to be in place and remain relevant to changing legislation. Companies need to ensure that they have methods by which to ensure they support their commitment. With a more mature EMS you may be able to consider committing to other non regulatory guidelines or codes of practice to enhance your levels of compliance. ACTION PLANNING

Improvement areas Policy Having a policy outlining your environmental priorities is an essential part of any formal management system. Even of you are not applying a formal environmental management system, having a policy provides the focus for the organisation to priorities effort. Its important that the policy makers of your organisation understand the need for an environment policy and what it should consider, in fact you may want to look at what other companies do. Having documented a robust policy you need to communicate it so that all colleagues understand, if not every detail the sentiment behind it and are therefore able to support it. Therefore having your policy as part of your internal communications is important too. It is important that your Environmental Policy fits with your overall company mission, vision and core values as it is should be embedded as part of your corporate identify not set aside from it. F gas compliance F gas/Ozone depleting regulations are is a key area for many distribution sites (including those that aren't refrigerated) and so important to ensure that this legislation is understood. What is important to also consider is not just the physical infrastructure but also the behaviors and procedures that support this. ACTION PLANNING

How we can help your next steps We can devise bespoke training for your senior teams and help you ensure that you cover all the key points essential for a policy, especially if you plan to go for ISO We also have basic templates for communications plans to help you focus on all the necessary audiences and can also check policies for their continued relevance or provide communications audits to ensure that your people understand the policy. We could work with you undertake an initial review which will help you to understand your areas of weakness and highest impact. We can provide legal audits to confirm compliance with the regulations as well as identifying good practices. We can also provide legal training to ensure key colleagues are aware of their role in achieving and maintaining compliance. We can also ensure that you are made aware of any new requirements that need to be considered. Even though commitment to compliance was a strength, it is important that you know how changes in legislation impact your procedures and business and that you can assess this on a continued basis. We can help you be aware of these changes by providing readable legal updates, advice on how to ensure your procedures support this and how you can measure your performance in legal compliance.
