Current Status of Kindergarten in Newtown In our 2-3/4 hour program, we cannot provide the number of instructional hours needed to teach the Common Core State Standards. Common Core State Standards requires 155 hours per year of instructional time in kindergarten mathematics. Common Core State Standards require 355 hours of instructional time per year in kindergarten language arts.

Current Research There are reports that achievement gains from FDK are “made up” by the time students reach 3 rd grade. Many of these studies also state that resources are disproportionately allocated to students performing below grade level, resulting in the closing of this achievement gap.
