Assessment Activities  Have students draw a picture of the moon every night at a regular time interval. Use class discussions as an ongoing assessment of students’ understanding of the moon phases.  Use Phases of the Moon – Oreo Lesson as an assessment. For assessment purposes see attached sheet for students to record results of Oreo lesson.Oreo Lesson Instructional Notes: Students should know:  the appearance (shape) of the moon changes in a cycle that takes about a month. Note: Students are not responsible for naming all waxing and waning phases of the moon. Instructional Websites: Phases of the Moon – Oreo Lesson Phases of the Moon – Lesson Plan Blue Moon – Lesson Plan Phases of the Moon – Oreo Lesson Phases of the Moon – Lesson Plan Blue Moon – Lesson Plan Limited or Minimum Progress toward achievement of standard (1) Student is not able to record the shape of the moon for a period of time. Progressing toward achievement of standard (2) Student inconsistently records the shape of the moon for a period of time. Consistently and independently achieves the standard (3) Student consistently and independently records the shape of the moon for a period of time. S2E2 Students will investigate the position of sun and moon to show patterns throughout the year. d. Use observations and charts to record the shape of the moon for a period of time. This standard builds on Kindergarten standard: SKE1a (describe changes that occur in the sky during the night).
