Technology in the Classroom Feb 23, 2009 Cam Bennet DRCSS ca No need to take notes, all slides will be posted on the Internet. "In a time of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned find themselves equipped to live in a world which no longer exists." - Eric Hofer

Agenda 9:00 - Intro Presentation Sympodium - Smartboard Podcasting class blogs Blogs 10: 15 coffee 10:30 play time 12:00 LUNCH 1:00 - Presentation Senteo - clickers survey monkey texting to kids ExamView - test generator 2:15 coffee 2:30 play time

web 1.0 vs web 2.0 think back 10 years ago, 1999 what was teaching like? What has changed? Edline, ipods, cellphones, addresses, dvd's? 10 years ago, if you asked who has a DVD player at home? 10 years ago, internet at home? 10 years ago, who has a cell phone? Now think back 20 years ago, Now think 10 years from now, what do you see? years from now? whatif.wmv

What do I do? Sympodium - Smartboard Power point notes - printing to PDF - post to EDLINE Edline - podcasting - converting to ipod format - saving avi files to ipod (flash drive) Senteo - clicker tests Examview - testing and reviewing Solutions on website Outlook as a daybook Google Desktop - find a file on your desktop. cell phones - alarm clock - reminders - survey tools Do kids like it? These are things that I do, not saying you should do them just that these are possibilities.

This survey was done via with my Applied Math 40S, Physics 30S, and Physics 40S classes on Jan 20,21 st, The use of this type of technology has helped me improve my mark in Mr. Bennet's class

2. How many class podcasts did you listen to this semester?

3. What technology did you find the most useful? Please comment on why it was useful..The podcasts and the notes on the website because I am an athlete and my team was gone many fridays and on some occasions even earlier in the week. I was able to access the days notes from any location that there was internet access. Wed, 1/21/09 9:51 AM Recorded lessons, very useful if you miss a class, or did not getenough time to finish writing notes. Wed, 1/21/09 9:50 AM.i think getting the notes off the website was most useful especially when i listened to the podcast to Tue, 1/20/09 2:59 PM The online solutions(laptops) because i can see where i went wrong on my questions and i can look through them at my own pace. Tue, 1/20/09 2:56 PM Clicker Tests, because they tested your knowledge on an everyday basis and got you thinking. Tue, 1/20/09 2:55 PM Clicker Quizzes, mainly because they were more interactive and it made it easier to may attention. Tue, 1/20/09 2:54 PM

4. What other technology would you like to see being used in a classroom? Explain. 2.clicker tests... they were fun and helped out Wed, 1/21/09 9:57 AM 3.I think that using more interactive technology really increases the understanding of many things. Like the clicker tests. It would be useful if there was a little quiz at the start of the class about the previous days work. Or at the begginning or end of the week about that weeks lessions so that students know where their understanding level is at. Wed, 1/21/09 9:51 AM robat personal tutor Tue, 1/20/09 3:05 PM

How do I podcast? Where do I post them? How do students access them?

Class Blogs Many classrooms have their own blog. What's a blog? Is wikipedia really OK to use in a class? 48: : :04, 24 November :40, 24 November look at history Are textbooks always right? Do they get edited constantly?

some examples of class blogs are

Where do you find ideas?
