Introduction Last week we studied how the mountains testify to the powerful presence of God at Mt. Sinai, Mt. Carmel, & the Mount of Transfiguration. We learned that God punished man for making their disobedience. Like Aaron and Moses passed away on the mountain all people will die but through the blood of Jesus Christ we can have eternal life.

Introduction This morning we will study the passages that deal with the mountain of the house of the Lord in the Old Testament. We will examine the prophecies in connection with it and after gathering all the facts of the inspired writers make a necessary conclusion. Please examine the Scriptures with me. (2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Thess. 5:21-22; Acts 17:11)

Isaiah 2:1-4 “The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths…

Isaiah 2:1-4 “For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And He will judge between the nations, & will render decisions for many peoples; & they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, & never again will they learn war.” Micah 4:1-3 is a very similar prophecy about the mountain of the house of the Lord.

Micah 4:1-3 “And it will come about in the last days That the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, And the peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem…

Micah 4:1-3 “And He will judge between many peoples And render decisions for mighty, distant nations. Then they will hammer their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they train for war.” Isaiah adds more information about this judge, ruler and teacher.

Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.”

Joel 2:28-32 "It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. "Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. "I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke. "The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. "And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the LORD has said, Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.”

Mountain of the House of the Lord Let us study some of its characteristics so that we can know its fulfillment: 1.When would it be fulfilled? In the last days 2. Who would rule? Immanuel, born of a virgin, and would sit on David’s throne 3.Who would be its citizens? All the nations 4. Where it would come from? Jerusalem (Mt. Zion) 5. What would they not learn any longer? War 6. What are the benefits? Salvation

Fulfillment of OT Prophecy in NT A child was born of a virgin named Immanuel, in fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14 who would save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21-23) The inspired apostle Peter in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost quotes Joel 2:28-32 and says that the events of that day were in fulfillment of that prophecy. (Acts 2:17-21)

Fulfillment of OT Prophecy in NT The apostle Peter testifies that Jesus of Nazareth performed miracles, wonders, and signs which God performed through Him but the Jews put Him to death. (Acts 2:22-23) Peter points out that God raised Him from the dead, (a fact to which all the apostles were eyewitnesses), and seated Him on David’s throne at the right hand of God. (Acts 2:30ff)

Fulfillment of OT Prophecy in NT There were 3,000 who eagerly responded to the invitation to be saved by being baptized. (Acts 2:38, 41) This included the Jews from every nation under heaven on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:5), the Samaritans (Acts 8:5-12), and the Gentiles. (Acts 10:35; 11:19-21) This included the Jews from every nation under heaven on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:5), the Samaritans (Acts 8:5-12), and the Gentiles. (Acts 10:35; 11:19-21) The Lord was adding to the church daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:47)

The Church is the Mountain of the House of the Lord in Fulfillment of OT Prophecy The church was in accordance with God’s eternal purpose which He carried in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 3:10-11) Jesus Christ purchased the church with His own blood. (Acts 20:28) Jesus Christ is the Head of the church and is the Savior of it. (Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:24)

The Church is the Mountain of the House of the Lord in Fulfillment of OT Prophecy Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords (1 Tim. 6:15) and He is the author of eternal life to all who obey His laws. (Heb. 5:9; Rom. 6:16) The church is the kingdom of Christ and subject to obey all of His laws. (Mt. 16:18-19; Acts 8:12; Eph. 5:24) Those who are members of His church are of God’s household, and become His children. (Gal. 3:26-27; Ephesians 2:19)

The Church is the Mountain of the House of the Lord in Fulfillment of OT Prophecy When we become His children, we are citizens of a spiritual kingdom with all the saints. (Philippians 3:20) Those who are enrolled in heaven as members of His church have come to Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, which is the city of the living God. (Hebrews 12:22-23)

Conclusion Have you come to the mountain of the house of the Lord as had been prophesied in the Old Testament? Do you realize that the fulfillment of these prophecies are in Jesus Christ and that He is the King, Savior, and Head of the church and not a human denomination? If you have not become a member of the Lord’s church, obey the gospel today!
