Guide for Student-Athletes and Their Parents Season of Competitions  5 Year Clock Employment Financial Aid  A student-athlete may not receive athletics aid in excess of a full grant-in-aid.  It is permissible for a student-athlete to receive additional aid (e.g., institutional scholarships, outside awards) in addition to an athletics scholarship. First Day of Class… May Not See a Familiar Face F requently A sked Q uestions? ◦What kind of class will this be? ◦Will there be a lot of work? ◦Will I be able to keep up? ◦Am I smart enough? ◦What’s the professor like? Less Nurturing and Hand Holding Faculty Grade on Quality of Work, Less on Time and Effort

Get to Class on Time We WILL be Checking Attend ALL classes NEVER miss before an exam Know the professors attendance policy No class due to sickness = No practice!!!

Behaving in Class We WILL be Asking Stay Awake…Insult to instructor to sleep NO TEXTING in class Cell Phone OFF before you enter the classroom If you MUST leave the room, make it Fast

Taking Meaningful Notes, etc You know your playbook…So know your textbook Read BEFORE you go to class NO tolerance for not buying your textbooks unless advisor can contact your professor and verify DO NOT go to class without a notebook…TAKE NOTES! Use texting technique

Making a Good Impression Dress and look appropriately…These teachers might one day have to write you a reference Some teachers may be offended if you are wearing a hat Be on time…Impress your teachers by getting to class a little early AGAIN…NO earphones, NO TEXTING, NO cell phones

Know the Syllabi How many exams? How many papers? Does class participation count? Office hours? Etc… Have a Planner Video and films are NOT a day off from class Do NOT pack up books and make noise before class is dismissed

Seek Help From Advisors!!!! They are counselors…not high school principle's You CAN give them bad news without worrying ◦Besides, they’ll find out anyway
