Thanksgiving Day Letter Dear World, I have many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. First, I want to thank my family for being so kind, nice, and loving. My family helps me a lot. They make me happy when I am sad. Secondly, I am thankful to be a Texan. Texas is my home and I always feel very comfortable and relaxed when I am home in Texas. People from Texas are very kind and friendly as I am. Lastly, I want to thank Moscow for being a good second home to me. In Moscow I have met many interesting people. I like living in Moscow and it is a beautiful city. Yours truly, Robert

Poems Over the River and Through the Woods Over the river and through the wood To Grandmother's house we go. The horse knows the way To carry the sleigh Through white and drifted snow. Over the river and through the wood Oh, how the wind does blow! It stings the toes And bites the nose, As over the ground we go. Over the river and through the wood To have a first-rate play. Hear the bells ring, Ting-a-ling-ling! Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day! Over the river and through the wood, Trot fast, my dapple gray! Spring over the ground Like a hunting hound, For this is Thanksgiving Day. Over the river and through the wood, And straight through the barnyard gate. We seem to go Extremely slow~ It is so hard to wait! Over the river and through the wood~ Now Grandmother's cap I spy! Hurrah for fun! Is the pudding done? Hurrah for the pumpkin pie! Discussion Do you like holidays? What holidays do you celebrate? What holidays do you really look forward to? Are there holidays in other countries or religions that you wish were also celebrated in your country? Are there enough holidays in your country for which workers get the day or days off? What do you think is the most overrated holiday? Are there any special occasions or anniversaries you think deserve to be a public holiday but are not? Is it better to stay at home on holidays or go somewhere? Are holidays where the whole country is travelling stressful? How would you feel if there weren’t any holidays? What holiday food do you like? What are the pros and cons of spending holidays with your family, with your friends, or alone? Do you think holidays are too commercialized? Do you put on weight during certain holidays? Are there holidays in you country that have come from other countries (Valentine’s, Halloween…)? Do you like what’s on TV during holiday times in your country?

Brief History 1620 English Pilgrims set off from Plymouth, England in search of a new life without religious oppression Approximately 102 people were on the “Mayflower” Took about 66 days to reach America Half the pilgrims died by the spring of starvation and illness Disease had killed most of the Indian groups in that area of America before the pilgrims arrived. Pilgrims were met by and helped by an Indian named Squanto. Squanto was an escaped slave who spoke English quite well With the help of Squanto the pilgrims later formed a partnership with the Wampanoag Indian tribe Most well-known 1 st ever “Thanksgiving” celebration was in November But there were other celebrations such as this years before in 1578 in Newfoundland by previous exploring groups from Europe with Indians
