Solving Systems of Equations: Elimination Method

Objective I will be able to solve a system of linear equations in two variables using elimination by writing the steps and solution in the graphic organizer.

Steps for Elimination 1) Look for same coefficients for a variable and eliminate the variable 2) Solve for the remaining variable 3) Pick 1 of the original equations, substitute and solve for the other variable 4) Check your solution

Example 1 4x+2y = 9 -4x +3y =16

Example 2 -2x + 8y = -8 5x – 8y = 20

You try x+ 2y = 10 -x + y = 6
