Maxtor announced the Atlas 10K IV series (U320 SCSI, 10K rpm, GB, 8MB cache, full spec not released). Also announced plans for a 15K rpm follow-on. Seagate released the Barracuda ATA V series – ATA/100, 7200 rpm, GB (60GB/double-sided platter), 570 Mb/sec internal transfer rate. MP in Q4; native Serial ATA version in the Fall.

Also released the RocketHead 100 serial-ATA-to- standard-ATA HDD adapter (to attach non-serial-ATA drives to this controller – upgrade later to serial ATA drives).
