All Hands Meeting DORII Deployment of Remote Instrumentation Infrastructure Norbert Meyer PSNC October 20, 2009, Garching

 The past  What was done  Today (AHM)  Focus on the topics at the AHM  Increase stability of the middleware components  Schedule of upcoming patches  Further dissemination activities  Industry related events  Deployment of applications  Deployment in MOON (?)  The future  Upcoming events  Deliverables  Next AHM Introduction

DORII review July 3rd, 2009, Brussels – with a rehearsal a day before Programme

DORII review “The Project demonstrated strong and effective leadership. All project milestones have been met accordingly. All deliverables have been completed and most of them were on time”. Recommendation 1: Deliverables Provide more concise and focused descriptions of applications, requirements, and results. In the deliverables, the information should not be repeated too often and in all details. The same is also true for the description of the software applications. However, presentations given at the review meeting were convincing.

DORII review Recommendation 2: Requirements In the next iteration of requirements: make it more clear which requirements are identified and which of them have already been achieved. Recommendation 3: FTE spending (Management) Try to keep FTE spending according to project plans. Recommendation 4: Outreach/Exploitation Reach out for newer user communities and industry: exploit results as much as possible. Improve the impact of the project. Especially, a strategy must be developed immediately how to maintain and exploit the benefits of DORII after the end of the project. Apart from the currently three scientific areas (see executive summary), other potential users should be involved by this strategy. Recommendation 5: Scientific User Community For next review: the scientific user community should report on its experience

Deliverables DSA2.3aDeployment and test of selected applications on the infrastructure - Update DNA4.2Architectural Description of DORII Middleware DSA1.3Final design of the distributed infrastructure over the GEANT network DJRA1.4Next release of JRA components DNA1.8Activity report DNA2.6Report on Dissemination DNA4.3Inventory of Standardization Efforts and Contributions What was done July-October 2009

 SG meetings  Teleconferences every 10 days  Activity meetings/teleconferences  NA2, NA3, SA2, JRA1  RISGE RG meeting at OGF27, Canada, Oct  Dissemination Events – ISC2009 conference and exhibition in Hamburg, June 24-26, 2009 (DORII booth) – BalticGrid Summer School, Moletai Observatory (Lithuania), June 29 – July 3, 2009 (DORI presentation) – and local presentations, e.g. at in Genova (Italy, June 8-10), conference of the National Contact Point in Warsaw (June 2009) – GridKa School, September 2009, Karlsruhe (Germany), with DORII presentation and tutorial – DORII Summer School, Sept. 2009, St. Stefan (Austria) What was done July-October 2009

Forthcoming Events Supercomputing 2009 – DORII booth – Portland, U.S., November 2009 Next AHM – Not decided yet OGF28, March 2010 INGRID 2010, May 2010 – Poznań, Poland DORII School, May 2010 – In conjunction with INGRID conference

Project phases  Month 3 (April ’ 08) : Requirements analysis  Corresponds to milestone MNA3.1  Month 10 (November ’ 08) : First release of infrastructure for applications and instrumentation  This corresponds to specific milestones: MSA2.1, MSA1.1  Month 13 (February 2009): Deployment of the first applications on the infrastructure  Month 18 (JULY 2009): Second version of infrastructure ready, including networking and instrumentation  Month 20: Second deployment of the applications on the infrastructure Schedule of the deployment What are the current state NA3 Deliverable  Month 28: Third version of applications, update of the second version, stable, scalable and ready for use by external communities

Major measurable parameters  Setup up of the OGF research group  Summer Schools: 2 (one per year)  Two summer schools organised for scientific communities, presenting the way of how we can use the eInfrastructure and giving a show of best practices.  DORII Summer School 2009 – done  DORII School TBD  Papers at international conference proceedings, magazines and journals: at least 5 (two per year, one before the end of the project)  at least 1 in an international journal.  A professional video presentation about the daily use of the eInfrastructure by scientific groups: Month 24  Deploying the results also to a wider community outside the project  We will show and justify that the provided software framework can be deployed with a reasonably low effort under the MOON consortium (that is ouside the DORII project).  The OGS partner plans to deploy and disseminate the results of the environmental monitoring to other communities.  Prototypes ready for deployment: 3 during the project lifetime, according to the defined milestones: MNA3.2, MNA3.3, MNA3.4.
