Imperative or Commands Herr Weaver

The imperative form is only used with the 2nd person (talking to someone else or telling someone else) to do something: du or Sie Du – talking to a friend Sie – talking to someone you do NOT know or to someone you do NOT call by their first name.

Imperative An Imperative is the same as a Command. Example: the verb gehen - Drop the –en ending and you have the command Go! - gehen becomes Geh! or Go!

Marsch! (March!) Halt! (Stop!)

Steh auf! From aufstehen to get up From aufstehen to get up With a separable prefix verb like aufstehen

Formal form: Hören Sie gut zu! Informal form: Hör gut zu! Both say Listen well! Another separable prefix verb: zuhören to listen
