Data Collection

UNICEF’s support for data collection Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) One of the largest data collection efforts on the MDGs globally covering more than half of the health related MDG indicators Nearly 200 MICS surveys conducted in 100 countries MICS frequency increasing from every 5 years to every 3 years MICS4 currently being implemented in over 50 countries Average cost to support countries: $350,000 (MICS evaluation)

Data Collection Building on Ongoing Work Data collection through MICS is a primary source of disaggregated data Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) MICS provides data for more than 100 indicators which can be disaggregated by:  geozones  residence (urban, urban-poor, rural)  gender  education  age  wealth  ethnicity/religion/language  other stratifiers  combinations of the above

Data Compilation and Analysis

Data Compilation: Global databases – compile and maintain data from MICS and DHS and other household surveys Reports: These data are analyzed and used in global monitoring efforts, UNICEF flagship publications, SG’s MDG Progress Report and sector-specific reports UNICEF is the lead agency reporting on the health- related MDGs Further data analysis and methodological work Data Compilation and Analysis

DevInfo Database system endorsed by the United Nations Development Group for monitoring human development. Tool for organizing, storing and presenting data in a uniform way to facilitate data sharing at the country level across government departments, UN agencies and development partners. Produces tables, graphs and maps for inclusion in reports, presentations and advocacy materials.
