International Standards Organisation – ISO - Worldwide body for setting standards United Kingdom Accreditation Service – UKAS - run the accreditation of certifying bodies in the UK British Printing Industries Federation – BPIF – owners of the Scheme Certification Requirements
ISO CERTIFICATION PROCESS What is the BPIF’s role is this? The scheme has been developed by the BPIF’s Technical Standards Committee to help members towards achieving certification The scheme is available to all but protected by copyright and publically available for information only
ISO CERTIFICATION PROCESS SunChemical COLOUR GAP ANALYSIS The first stage towards certification is to undertake a Colour Gap Analysis This is undertaken by reviewing the company’s workflow processes from copy reception through to the proof and printed product at the completion of the process using check lists specifically designed for the purpose
ISO CERTIFICATION PROCESS CONSULTANCY ADVICE Any weaknesses in hardware or software indentified by the GAP analysis that could result in non-compliance can be addressed Any production or procedural weakness identified by the GAP analysis that could result in non-compliance can be addressed
ISO CERTIFICATION PROCESS TEST RUN Undertake a test run on a selected press (or presses) to UKAS audit certification standards Advantage is you will know whether or not there is work to do before auditing the press Action can then be taken to make any changes before the certifying body undertakes its tests

The BPIF services are aimed at equipping members to be ready for an audit to the standards of UKAS This means being ready for a fully independent UKAS audit (as with 9001, etc) This is not related to commercial schemes offered by some software and hardware suppliers which cannot be independently audited
