IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution n These research views are not committing RATP to the European Commission and the IST Work Programme 2001 n They do not pretend to represent the urban transport sector vision n It is a selection made among our works on the City and urban mobility and identification of emerging research trends and interests in our Company

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution Three main tendencies are identified : n We are strongly influenced by the NTIC n We would rather consider the customer as an individual than a mass transit passenger n Urban access through multimodal transport

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution Priority order : n 'Public Service for Urban Accessibility ’ n 'Bus for the Future ’ n ‘Urban Guided Transport Management System ’ TO IMPROVE SERVICE QUALITY TO IMPROVE SERVICE QUALITY

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘Public Service for (Urban) Accessibility’ Intelligent use of all transport facilities to offer ‘ push ’ services : –passenger information related to public transport as schedules, delays, but also to others modes, private car, parking facilities... –information on all the services offered by the station and its urban local environment : commercial, health, administrative, cultural, infrastructures…

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘Public Service of Urban Accessibility’ combines a large range of services through : – new technologies : Internet, mobiles including the new generation of information systems: vocal... – a new status for the passenger : from unknown public passenger to identified user (customerized services will be provided through geomarketing and marketing one to one. Information includes Transport and City activities

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘Public Service for Urban Accessibility’ is provided through access points to internet equipping major stations, exchange halls, dedicated places…

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution New Services - New Organisation - New Jobs Designer: to adjust the services to everyone who wants it (availability) Trainer: to train the volunteer how to use access points Mediator: to give information whether in a traditional way or using new technologies Best suited type of action: RTD&D and for some parts: Take up measures: Best Practices

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘Urban Guided Transport Management System’ (UGTMS) Due to the New Technologies : Re-consider all the technical systems needed to operate a public transport line from safety to security applications such as : Train control, traffic management, maintenance support, public address system etc… New HMI issues Best suited type of action: RTD&D

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘ Bus of the Future ’ Integration of subsystems into the vehicle : communications, localisation, information and operations Best suited type of action: RTD&D

IST Work Programme 2001 RATP contribution ‘The Bus of the Future’ to meet the following issues: - urban ecology : new cinematic chain for hybrid vehicles with clean motorisation (more economical, less polluting, in association with the vehicle guidance system - field research : immaterial guidance) - new architecture : external design (wheels at ends) and consequentinternal design - new internal ergonomy integrating communications, localisation and information systems (HMI) - better integration into the urban fabric - new jobs, new training
