WWW (World Wide Web) Is Global network Documents or files connected together all over the world. Can be accessed using Web Browser.

Web Browser Is an application that is used to display web pages. Ex: Internet Explorer Firefox Google chrome

Internet Explorer

Define each of the following terms WWW, ISP, HTTP, FTP, URL, Hyperlink.

Internet Explorer WWW : (World Wide Web) HTTP : (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) URL : (Uniform Resource Locator) Hyperlink: ( A Clickable Item transfer you from a page to another) ISP : (Internet Service Provider) FTP: (File Transfer Protocol)

Understand the make-up and structure of a Web address.

 Hyper Text transfer Protocol www.  World Wide Web pua.  Domain Name Edu.  Domain extension eg  country Domain

Open (and close) a Web browsing application. Double click on the Internet Explorer icon Start  all programs  Internet Explorer

First Steps with the Web Browser

Stop a Web page from loading. Use the Stop icon to stop loading a web page

Refresh a Web page. Refreshing (Reloading) the web page, forces the web browser to see if there is an updated version of the page

Web Navigation

Go to a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) If you have a Web page address such as you could simply enter this into the URL Address bar at the top of the Microsoft Internet Explorer program, and press Enter

Navigate backwards and forwards between previously visited Web pages. Use the Back or Forward icons

Change the Web browser Home Page / Start page. Home page is the starting page of the browser. Set the start page to a page that you find useful, such as a search engine, a news page, etc………….. You can change home page from internet options

Using Bookmarks (Favorites)

Bookmark a Web page. Bookmark web pages so that you can return to them at another time You can use favorites Icon from the toolbar or use favorites menu.

Working with bookmarked Web page. From Favorites menu you can: Add a web page to favorites Display a bookmarked page Organizing your favorites

Add Web pages to a bookmark folder. Click on the Favorites menu → Add to Favorites → from create in choose the folder you want to save in → ok to navigate to this web page go to favorites and click on it

Organizing Bookmarks

Create a bookmark folder. Favorites → select the Organize Favorites, Organize Favorites dialog box will be displayed. You can use it to Create Folder and give it a name Delete existing folder or page. Rename a folder or webpage Move folders and web pages within favorites menu

Using History

Web browser history Web browser keep previously visited URLs which can be displayed using address bar To view the browser history click on the Favorites button → click on history Tab

Delete browsing history To delete the history: Tools → internet options form browsing history → Delete

Web Searching Using a Search Engine

Search engine Is a site that helps you to find information located on the internet It gets result as hyperlink
