PRESENTATION BREAK DOWN Common Faults Maintenance Schedule Anti Virus Back Up / Restore Free Software

COMMON FAULTS Power Supply Hard Disk Drive Failure Mother Board Failure Virus / Spyware Corrupted File System

POWER SUPPLY FAILURE The number one most replaced part. Symptoms of this are normally no power lights at all on the PC. Power supply failure can be caused by many different things but most commonly power surges and over heating due to damaged fans

HARD DISK DRIVE FAILURE The second most common replaced part. Symptoms of this are blue screens, crashing and loss of data. If caught early enough we can normally save most data, photos, music etc. Hard disk drive failure is very common in pc's over 3 years old and is sometimes seen as early as 13 or 14 months into a PC's life

MOTHER BOARD FAILURE The third most common replaced part. Symptoms of this can include a wide range of things but normally cause the PC to not boot at all or at worst damage the power supply and/or hard drive.

VIRUS / SPYWARE The number one cause of software problems. Symptoms of this are normally slow system performance, crashing and constant pop-up when connected to the internet. PC's are prone to virus's and spyware when no up to date antivirus software has been installed on the machine.

CORRUPTED FILE SYSTEM The second most common software problem. Symptoms of this include windows not booting due to a missing file message or a blue screen. This is normally caused by a power cut or the PC being restarted or shut down incorrectly.

COMPUTER VIRUS CONCEPT Boot Sector Virus - Michelangelo Boot sector viruses infect the boot sectors on floppy disks and hard disks, and can also infect the master boot record on a user's hard drive. File Infector Virus - CIH Operate in memory and usually infect executable files. Multi-partite Virus Multi-partite viruses have characteristics of both boot sector viruses and file infector viruses. Macro Virus - Melissa Macro Virus They infect macro utilities that accompany such applications as Microsoft Word, Excel and outlook.

COMPUTER VIRUS CONCEPT Types of Computer Virus Trojan / Trojan Horse – Back Orifice A Trojan or Trojan Horse is a program that appears legitimate, but performs some malicious and illicit activity when it is run. Worm – Red Code A worm is a program that spreads over network. Unlike a virus, worm does not attach itself to a host program. It uses up the computer resources, modifies system settings and eventually puts the system down. Worms are very similar to viruses in that they are computer programs that replicate themselves. The difference is that unlike viruses, worms exist as a separate small piece of code. They do not attach themselves to other files or programs.
