Your Story Line Choose one of the following story lines – How a person can develop Type 2 diabetes – The day and life of a person with Type 2 diabetes – How diabetes affects the body

What you need in your comic! Character(s): Who is in your story? Who are they? Setting: Where is your story taking place? Rough Draft #3

Final Draft

What you need to turn in your final draft. *Turn it in all together – 1 st draft – 2 nd draft – 3 rd draft – Feedback from three other students and a teacher – Research notes – Comic Strip Checklist – FINAL DRAFT

CHECKLIST COPY THE CHECKLIST ACCORDING TO YOUR STORY LINE HOW DOES A PERSON DEVELOPS TYPE 2 DIABETES In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ Diet and exercise ___ Recommended daily sugar intake ___ Description of a person’s symptoms who is developing Type 2 diabetes A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PERSON WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ Diet and exercise ___ Recommended daily sugar intake /measuring sugar levels ___ What medications/treatments needed for Type 2 diabetes HOW DIABETES AFFECTS THE BODY In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ How the pancreas reacts to high concentration of sugar in the blood ___ What happens to the cells when the pancreas stops working. ___ The major health complications that develop from diabetes.

STUDENT REVIEW/RECOMMENDATIONS Directions: Staple the student recommendation table to your first draft.

STUDENT REVIEW/RECOMMENDATIONS Directions: Staple the student recommendation table to your first draft. GALLERY WALK: 1.Leave your comic on the table. 2. When we say switch move to the next table. 3. Today you will complete a peer review of each others 1 st draft. Everyone’s draft will have at least 6 student reviews. You will do a gallery walk, moving from table to table. Leave your 1 st draft neatly on your table, with your: 1) checklist, 2) both student review sheets stapled to it. You will spend ____ mins. Reviewing each persons draft. Use the checklist as your guide, say at least one positive thing give suggestions for how to make their comic better.

L.T: I can work on my 2 nd draft for my comic strip. Task: Complete the NYS Science exam review. (8 mins.)

Carbon dioxide CO 2 Oxygen O 2 Energy Cellular Respiration: Using food (sugar) and oxygen from breathing to provide energy C 6 H 12 O O 2  Energy + 6 CO H 2 O Cell C 6 H 12 O 6

Photosynthesis: producers/autotrophs use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to made sugar (food) and oxygen. (6 CO H 2 O + Sunlight  C 6 H 12 O O 2 ) Carbon dioxide CO 2 Oxygen O

Correctly identify each organ system below Digestive system : breaks down food so our cells can use it Respiratory system : Take oxygen into our body and pushes carbon dioxide out Circulatory system carries oxygen and nutrient to our cells

Final Draft What you need to turn in your final draft. *Turn it in all together – 1 st draft (Due Friday May 31 st ) – 2 nd draft (Wednesday June 5 th ) – 3 rd draft (Due Monday June 10 th ) – Feedback from three other students and a teacher – Research notes – Comic Strip Checklist – FINAL DRAFT (Due Friday June 14 th )

CHECKLIST COPY THE CHECKLIST ACCORDING TO YOUR STORY LINE HOW DOES A PERSON DEVELOPS TYPE 2 DIABETES In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ Diet and exercise ___ Recommended daily sugar intake ___ Description of a person’s symptoms who is developing Type 2 diabetes. (role of insulin) A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PERSON WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ Diet and exercise ___ Recommended daily sugar intake /measuring sugar levels ___ What medications/treatments needed for Type 2 diabetes HOW DIABETES AFFECTS THE BODY In your comic please incorporate the following: Checklist ___ How the pancreas reacts to high concentration of sugar in the blood ___ What happens to the cells when the pancreas stops working. ___ The major health complications that develop from diabetes.

STUDENT REVIEW/RECOMMENDATIONS Directions: Copy the table below. Summarize your story idea to people at your table. Have three of your peers give suggestions/ recommendations and write them in the table below.
