They state the following: “Europe should become, by 2010, the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion“. The aim is to increase our universities’ contribution to the Lisbon Agenda for more growth, and more and better jobs. Europe has around 4000 higher education institutions, with over 17 million students and 1.5 million staff. All across Europe, countries and universities are in a process of modernization. From an EU perspective, these reforms are part of the Lisbon Strategy.
