10 th Grade Culminating Project

What does it look like? As part of the 10 th grade Culminating Project you are required in English class to complete a resume and cover letter.

What is a Resume? A resume is a list of credentials that demonstrates you are qualified for a job. Resumes are used to market yourself, or promote why you are the most qualified for a job. Resumes usually include categories such as Job Related Skills, Education, and an Objective stating what job you are applying for and why.

What is a Cover Letter? A cover letter is a business letter where you introduce yourself and your experience to an employer. Since a cover letter is a business letter make sure to include your address, your employers address, the date of your application, and a dear, and sincerely. Consider your resume an outline for your cover letter.

How will I be graded? The drafts of the resume and cover letter are each worth 50 points The final draft of the resume and cover letter will be worth 100 points each. These will be considered part of the Summative Category which equals 60% of your semester grade.

Grading Continued Your drafts will be revised by either: -Mr. Sun-K, your peers, or a person who you trust over 21 years of age. However, Mr. Sun-K will be grading all of your work.

What about the Culminating Project and Efolio? The Resume and Cover Letter will be taught and graded by Mr. Sun-K, but approved by your Advisory Teacher. In addition, during 10 th grade you need to also complete a Career Inventory, Job Application, Best Works, and Reference Forms. This will be introduced and approved by your Advisory teacher. But the responsibility is yours to complete all documents, upload them to Efolio, and submit them to your Advisory teacher.

What happens after we complete the resume and Cover Letter? You will be saving your final drafts both on 1.Your “H” Drive and Mr. Sun- K’s “In-Box” on the “S” Drive. I would also encourage you to save a copy on a thumb drive for your records. 2.Please save your resume and cover letter as 2 separate documents. 3. When your final draft is graded, it is your responsibility to load the final drafts into Efolio! We will be doing this in class at a later date.

The Resume and Cover Letter Contest The entire POD will submit their resume/cover letters to Mr. Sun-K. -Mr. Sun-K will choose 9 resumes/cover letters and submit them to Jed Aldridge, Co- Founder and Interview Coach at Principles of Performance -Jed will invite 3 students for a formal interview sometime in the Spring. *All three students will receive a certificate of achievement for their efforts. -1 student will be chosen as finalist and be given a. personal letter of recommendation from Jed. /Welcome.html
