Succeeding at a Teacher Recruiting Fair

Teacher Job Fairs Teacher fairs function differently across states Read job fair instructions. Some fairs charge registration fees, require pre-registration, allow door registration and close registration. Many districts will conduct on-site interviews. Arrive early. Teacher fairs generate the most traffic in the mornings and wind down toward the late afternoon.

Before the Job Fair Review job fair materials Identify and prioritize school districts to visit Research district missions and their application process, apply in advance if necessary Strategize to maximize your time Update your resume to reflect your student teaching experience and related coursework Assemble placement files/portfolio Prepare introduction statement

Prepare Introduction Statement Prepare a 30 second introduction commercial Example: Hello my name is ________________. I am a graduating/graduate from Western Governors University with a ________ degree in ________. I would like to discuss how my education and training can be a great match for your school district.

What to Bring Candidates may be asked/will fill out an application at the fair. Some applications require additional documents. Make sure to bring copies of items you might need such as: –Resume –Transcript –Licensure/Certification –Test scores

Day of the Fair Dress professionally Wear comfortable shoes Be prepared to interview on the spot Visit with the different in/out of state school districts and inquire about their follow-up process Write down the names of recruiters you spoke/ interviewed with for follow up

After the Fair If you interviewed with a school district, make sure to follow up with them –Submit all application materials and placement file if necessary –Send Thank You cards or to recruiters
