Cook was born on October 27, 1728 in the city of Yorkshire, England.
He sailed to Tahiti in order to observe The Transit of Venus.
He almost sank in The Great Barrier Reef because of coral.
Thirty members of his crew died because of a disease carried by mosquitoes.
Cook sailed down to Antarctica and The Easter Islands.
Cook was the first person recorded to cross the Antarctic Circle.
The Resolution and Adventure separated in February 1773 and met again in New Zealand.
His last Expedition lasted almost three years!
Cook then searched for a Northwest Passage. But he was unsuccessful.
