Mind Mapping Your Mission & Vision Statements DOJ 2012 CTAS Application

A Mind Map is used to…

The Mind Map will have a life of its own!!  Don’t worry about how it looks.  It’s the ideas that go into the Mind Map that are important!!  Remember there are no wrong ideas or thoughts.

Computer Generated Mind Maps There are hundreds of software tools available for around $100.00

MIND MAP Elders’ teachings Who are we? Why are we? Where are we going?

Who are we? In answering this question, we will find our program’s identity and gain knowledge on our program’s values.

Why are we? In answering this question, we will:  determine the purpose of your DOJ 2012 CTAS application  gain a deeper understanding of the spirit and intent of the program(s) and those you serve  create your mission statement from mind mapping

DOJ 2012 – Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation In thinking about the ten purposes areas of the DOJ 2012 CTAS, ask yourself these questions: * What are the most important needs in your village/community ? * What purpose areas of DOJ 2012 CTAS will best fit the needs of your village/community ? * What would your village/community mission statement look like in relationship to the purpose areas you will be requesting funding for?

“Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”

“To make people happy”

“Creating a community that advocates for the health of our tribal youth and families.” “Creating a safe and healthy community that protects and supports our village women, and honors them as the backbone of our families.” “Creating a safe and drug-free village for our youth.”

Mission Statement  Answers the question why do we exist.  Describes a program’s present state and present capabilities. Make the mission statement clear and concise.

Where are we going? In answering this question, we will:  create the vision of the program  see where the program will go in the future  create our vision statement from the mind map

Vision Statements  Define where the village or community wants to be in the future  Should be a source of inspiration to the people you serve and the program staff

“The next generation of youth will not experience drug and alcohol addiction.” “The next generation of youth will know their language, ceremonies, and culture.”

“ Imagination is more powerful than knowledge ” - Albert Einstein Knowledge allows you to see things as they are, imagination allows you to see things as they could be!!
