Water: Resources and the environment. Where does our water come from? Why is Wales a good place to get water? How is Wales different to other Places?

Most of the water that we use in Wales comes from reservoirs. What is a reservoir? Man-made structures designed to store water. Dam wall River valley Reservoir

Reservoirs in Wales and Lesotho. Using your mind map, find answers to these questions: Why is north Wales a good place to build reservoirs? Why is Lesotho a good place to build reservoirs? Why was the reservoir built in Treweryn? Why were reservoirs built in Lesotho? What impacts did the reservoirs have on a) north Wales b) Lesotho? COMPARE the impacts of reservoirs on people in both places. Was it right to build these reservoirs? Use all the information you can from your mind Map to write detailed explanations

Local opinion about the Tryweryn reservoir at The time it was being Built (1965).

There are lots of reservoirs in Wales. Your Task: Look at the statements in your groups. Make a ‘mind map’ which answer these questions: Why is Wales a good place to build reservoirs? Who uses water from Welsh reservoirs? What impacts are there on people when a reservoir is built? Why was the Katse dam built in Lesotho? What impacts do you think the Katse dam had on the people of Lesotho? Extension: Compare the impacts of reservoir building in Wales and Lesotho.
