Presentation Outline 1)Design Overview –Travis 2)Literature Review Summary -Travis 3)Locking Mechanism - Devin 4)Case Material -Baker 5)Power Subsystem - Fahad 6)Microcontroller Subsystem -Richard 7)Software Subsystem -Travis

“Bluelock” Design Total Cost of Prototype: 300$ Consumer cost: 59.99$ Prototype construction: begins August 19 th 2013

Design Overview

Literature Review Summary Locking Mechanism Lock Case Material Power Subsystem Microcontroller Subsystem Software Subsystem Size, ease of use, price Quality, price, reliability Rechargeability, longevity Built in Bluetooth, low- power mode, lock mechanism control Price, ease of use, range of marketability

Locking Mechanism Basic Pin Lock Mechanism Simple to manufacture Solenoid Operated Key Failsafe and Mechanism Relation

Locking Mechanism Key and Matching Lock Cylinder Typical Key Pros and Cons Barrel or Tube Key and Cylinder

Locking Mechanism Solenoids Ideal use for simple lock operation Solenoid Force versus Plunger Extension

Lock Case Material Stainless Steel: -> 2.34$ per cubic inch Advantages: hard material does not corrode. Disadvantages: High cost, hard to fabricate. Brass: -> 2.08$ per cubic inch Advantages: high-class look, easily machined, cheaper. Disadvantages: Weak, easily damaged, non- weather resistant Steel: ->.55$ per cubic inch Advantages: Very strong, easy construction. Disadvantages: heavy, corrosion, action of rust. Prototype: Brass Production: Stainless Steel

Power Subsystem Batteries Will be used as a power source Will supply power to the microcontroller Microcontroller will provide power to the solenoid and the Bluetooth receiver Microcontroller supports AAA batteries which average mAh, and a coin battery “cr2032” 225 mAh

Microcontroller Subsystem Rfduino will be the microcontroller used for this design Is Arduino compatible and uses the same Arduino code Has low power mode and can run for a long duration of time. Power Consumption is 6.3 mA when using 3V on-chip DC-DC and 420 nA during sleep mode The continuous run time will be approximately 36 hours using the cr2032 and the sleep mode will last over 500,000 hours. Easy to program with the USB shield

Microcontroller Subsystem Function Obtains input from phone application Uses the output mechanisms of the microcontroller to control the solenoids Will need an N-Channel Mosfet (TIP 102 works fine) as a relay that will provide and switch the power for the 12 V solenoids Built in wireless communication. i.e. Bluetooth 4.0. Small in size and low cost ->130$ for development kit and 30$ for basic production models

Software Subsystem Microcontroller Software Coded using Arduino Software Using Arduino based libraries Free software Phone Application Coded in Eclipse Java based application Free Software
