 Definition Concept where companies must actively pursue issues concerning the environment and other social issues, such as:  Corporate ethics  Compliance to laws and regulations  Labor issues  Environmental protection  Human rights  Consumer protection

A. Increased scrutiny because of:  Corporate scandals  Quality control issues  Leakage of personal information  Corporate mismanagement B. Globalization of companies C. Growth of information technology  Information can be conveyed instantaneously  Corporate action will be condemned by NGOs

 This standard offers guidelines on socially responsible behaviors and possible actions.  Japanese corporations must respect these standards

 CSR involves the entire supply-chain of the world, e.g., distributors and vendors.  CSR provisions must be included in all transactions.  Theme of CSR must involve all the stakeholders in the company.

TASK You and your group are the leaders of a large corporation and have been called upon to change your companies focus to one of social responsibility.  Develop a Mission Statement that describes your companies goals. Statements must include at least three specific goals related to social responsibility. Be prepared to present your Mission Statements to the class.
