 Citizens for Animal Protection  Founded in 1972  Organized by concerned Houstonians  Non-profit organization  Located at Katy Freeway Houston, TX  

 Group/Individual Projects for Citizens for Animal Protection   Candee Best, Youth Volunteer Coordinator   Wish List drive or specific item drive such as clay cat litter, puppy dry food and canned food, kitten dry food and canned food, and white paper towels. CAP can provide a wish list on our website at We feed the animals donated food and the more items donated, the more money we have to spend on the animals, such as needed surgeries like a hernia.   Donate bandanas for our dogs. You can take a 10” or 12” square of material and cut in half for 2 bandanas. Pinking shears make a pretty scallop look. We try to have a bandana for each adopted dog and to show off our dogs waiting to be adopted at the shelter and our three PetSmart adoption centers. Of course, everyone loves the bandanas with a special theme, such as Valentine’s Day.   Make and donate catnip toys – 3inch circle of material with tablespoon of catnip in the middle and tied up into a bundle with a piece of satin ribbon ( we can’t use gift wrapping curling ribbon that will shred and the cats could swallow and choke on).   CAP thrift store item drive or individual family donations. Example: One student group gives one hour of volunteer service for one bag of thrift store donations. Note: Only gently worn clothes can be taken as clothes donations.   Collect newspapers and unfold the newspapers so they are ready to be put in the CAP cages after cleaning the cages. Separate the newspapers into three sections: 1) double sheets which you open as if you were reading both sides as it lay flat and then you continue to put one double sheet after another on top of each other in an organized pile.  4 inches of these newspapers equals 1 hour of service. 2) The single sheets of newspaper can be organized into a pile by themselves. 3) The shiny advertising sheets in the newspapers need to be removed and discarded or recycled, because we can’t use them in the animal cages.   We also need plastic bags for scooping poop, plastic bags for the pet supply store and plastic bags for the thrift store.   Adopt-a-pet bulletin board. Take photos of dogs and cats and bunnies from the CAP website( Arrange on a decorated bulletin board and post at school or other group building with CAP name and telephone number and information about CAP and adoption information.   Plan and have an event which benefits CAP such as dog wash, car wash, Pennies for Pets, wish list drive, lemonade stand, dance with admission being canned goods or other donation or other activity coordinated and approved by CAP.
