MIRA COSTA BASEBALL MISSION STATEMENT Mira Costa Baseball is dedicated to developing well-rounded young men who will be successful in life. We will play the game with honor and integrity and always respect our opponents. We realize that we are students first and will put an emphasis on academic success. As Mustangs we believe that there are no shortcuts to success and no team will out work or out prepare us.

John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success – Built on a solid foundation Academics Team Building Fundamentals Fund- Raising

My Philosophy - School comes first. All of these student athletes are here for an diploma and unfortunately most of them will never play college or professional baseball. My plan to get them a good education: 1. Weekly progress reports turned in to coaches 2. Mandatory study hall for those in danger 3. Academic code of conduct 4. Open communication with teachers and counselors Academics

Quality People and Student Athletes - If you practice and train right, the wins will come. As a team we will: 1. Set Goals (team / individual) 2. Do weight training (discipline / Kevin Yoxall) 3. Condition as a Team 4. Help in the community (Camps with Little League) 5. Communicate (team / ind. meetings with parents) 6. Work to accommodate other Mira Costa coaches / programs Team Building

Schedule – 1Fall Weight Training / PE Class 2Fall Fundraising / Tree Lot 3Winter League Saturday and Thursday Games 4Christmas Break Weight / Cardio Plan 5January Tryouts 6Team Goal Setting Meetings 7February Season Starts- Practice as a Program Team Building

Keeping the names of Jon Wilheit and Henry Pearson alive will be a large part of team building. They were both the types of players and young men that our teams should look up to.

“Be on Time and Do Things Right” Work Hard Execute the Fundamentals Throw Strikes Be Defensively Sound Be Aggressive on Basepaths Have Quality at Bats Be Prepared Play as a Team Never be Satisfied Win and Lose with Honor Fundamentals

Plans – 1. Alumni Game (Johnson, Wilhite) 2. Booster Club 3. Outfield Fence Sign Sponsorship 4. Media Guide Sponsorship 5. Corporate Sponsorship 6. Field Usage – Adult / High School Leagues 7. Christmas Tree Lot 8. Snack Stand 9. Team Merchandise 10. Christmas / Summer Camps Fund-Raising

What Can You Expect From me? I have been developing my plan for a baseball program for 10 years and I will pour my heart into Mira Costa baseball. By developing quality student athletes, we will take this program from good to great. I will do everything I can to help Mira Costa baseball players get to the next level. LMU – Scott Walter, UCLA – John Savage, UCI – Ted Silva, UCSB – Tom Meyers, Texas A&M – Jeremy Talbut, Cal State LA – Vince Beringhele, McNeese St – Clay Van Hook, El Camino – Nate Fernely, Harbor – Marco Avilar
