Implementing the AUC-CGIAR MoU The CAADP-CGIAR alignment

The CAADP-CGIAR alignment Serves as a guiding framework to align research activities Develop longer-term research and technological development goals for Africa Including joint priority setting via the NAFSIPs for CAADP countries and the SRF for CGIAR’s next phase of CRPs Expand partnerships to include all aspects under CAADP Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Sub-Regional Organizations RUFORUM (universities as important institutional partners in delivery of the S3A)

The Science Agenda for Agriculture in Africa (S3A) CGIAR brings substantial data and research results to inform the implementation of science and development programs in Africa Under the AUC-CGIAR partnership can make this wealth of knowledge systematically available to the wide range of partners in Africa – nationally, sub-regionally and Pan African Opportunity to jointly align S3A and CGIAR R4D

S3A – where does CGIAR bring value ? Engaging in joint research programs and achieving impact through CRPs and technology platforms Explore emerging issues (e.g. climate-smart agriculture) Measuring impact of AR4D at country and regional levels (metrics for monitoring the implementation of S3A) Establishing policy framework for investing in science (e.g. as part of development loans) Identifying capacity development needs

The CAADP-CGIAR alignment workstreams Transforming R4D into solutions for CAADP Aligning R4D with CAADP priorities VIP Virtual Agricultural Information Platform CSA Climate-Smart Agriculture CAADP-CGIAR Alignment AACSA INDCs S3A GCARD3 in Africa 12 country + 1 regional consultations GCARD3 in Africa 12 country + 1 regional consultations RECs

Discussion points for the panel S3A and CGIAR now aim for impact at scale (100,000 to 1,000,000 people) : how do your institutions plan to address this ? What kind of partnerships do you want to see to achieve impact at scale ? Successful examples ? Do you think the alignment of CGIAR CRPs and of S3A to CAADP is realistic ? What are this alignment’s challenges and key success factors?factors ?
