L ET ’ S T AKE C ARE OF THE P LANET This map was created by a nine year old girl from Argentina. This map caught my eye because of the sadness and despair it portrays. Litter is pouring out of the Earth, and the sun is frightened. Many children at this age, may not care as deeply for the environment. Obviously, this student feels that we are not taking care of our planet, thus resulting in the sad face on the Earth.

A B RIGHTER F UTURE This map was created by a 7 year old Australian female. This drawing is the exact opposite of the previous map I selected. This student seems to be hopeful for a better tomorrow. This child could lead a completely different lifestyle than the student in Argentina, thus resulting in a different outlook on the future. Also, this student may not be aware of the environmental dangers facing our future.

I T O NLY D EPENDS O N U S ! This map was drawn by a fourteen year old student in Brazil. The chains surrounding the Earth are broken by the two hands. This symbolizes to me that if we all work together, as one, we can save our world. To have such insight as a young adult astounds me! This student obviously understands that we must all work together and put aside our differences for the greater good.

W E A RE S O M ANY ! This drawing was completed by a 12 year student, living in Finland. This representation includes various flags from all over the world. This leads me to believe that this student has had the opportunity to learn about various cultures. He or she understands the similarities and differences between these different countries. I like how he/she included smaller drawings on the continents symbolizing some activities that go on in these specific places.

This map was drawn by a student in Greece. This student seems to be environmentally conscious, and realizes the amount of destruction being done to our planet. His drawing includes representations of air pollution, litter, bulldozing land, etc. One thing that’s interesting to me, is that the air in this picture seems to be perfectly clear.

UN MUNDO PROHIBIDO This map was created by a student in Mexico. This student’s map is full of complex issues. The student include drawings of guns, tanks, and other signs of violence. Another interesting feature is the two faces drawn which depict a Caucasian person and an African-American person. These two characters aren’t facing each other, which makes me feel as if the student is symbolizing the past. The lasting impression of this map is that this student doesn’t want the past to repeat itself. I can’t say I blame him!

O CEAN AND O UTERSPACE This map allows me to believe that this student in Poland has studied the various planets, and also underwater creatures. Most of these maps focus on greater issues plaguing the Earth, but this student focuses on things going on under our seas, and beyond our planet.

K EEP THE P IECES T OGETHER I really like how this student from Norway portrayed the Earth as a puzzle. Each piece must fit together in order to complete the puzzle. Each person on Earth must work together in order to keep our planet together.

C RAZY W ORLD This student from Switzerland portrayed the Earth as “Crazy.” He includes a collage of faces within each country. This map makes me wonder what the student has been taught in order to feel this way. I do like how this map is portraying the Earth and it’s inhabitants in a different way than the other maps.

A C OMMON B OND This is one of my favorite maps that I viewed. This map was completed by a student from the Untied Kingdom. The map portrays a wide array of nationalities, and genders. These people are united and are holding hands across the globe. Aside from what this student has been taught, she appears to have a hopeful outlook for the future of humanity.
